Q&A

the FAQs

Easy answer? A writer who creates copy. But that doesn’t really answer the question…

Copywriters are responsible for writing the words you see in marketing and advertising pretty much everywhere. There’s a broad scope of skills and work that a copywriter can have and do, including writing books and e-books, creating templates, brochures, websites, blogs, you name it. A copywriter is someone who knows the written word and uses it to tell a story to capture the heart and mind of the reader.

There’s a lot of acronyms out there, and it can get crazy confusing. SEO is a big one, and it’s important. What it stands for is Search Engine Optimisation, and what that means is making sure your online content is written with all the technical savvy to help you get found higher up in the search engine results. SEO covers the on-page content (webpage copy like an About Me page, blogs, etc.) and the off-page details, like meta tags and descriptions. Basically, if you’re relying on your online presence, you need it. No question.

Sometimes we think we need one thing, when actually it’s something entirely different. So how do you know what to ask for? Don’t stress, that’s something we’ll cover in the briefing stage, when we have a long, in-depth chat about you, your brand/company, and what you want to achieve.

Pretty much anything exceeding 1,000 words. It could be a magazine article, a blog post, a sales letter, a report, an interview. It’s much more detailed and comprehensive, and is often used for the more technical copy that relies on informing and educating.

I’m going to have a blog post or a page up about this soon, but in essence a creative project is not marketing.  Some examples are: scripts, writing a personal letter, beta-reading, creating personalised messages, maybe even ghostwriting. It’s up for negotiation and discussion, if you think you have something you’d like done that falls more under the ‘creative’ umbrella, let’s chat about it!

No! It’s definitely not. Copywriting has been around for ages and ages, since long before the dawn of the computer.

Some examples of non-digital copy are the brochures you see in stores, business cards, billboard advertisements, flyers, cards, and more. So if you’re in need of some physical copy (marketing collateral) I can definitely help you.

Each project is unique and requires different amounts of time and effort. So each project has a cost tailored specifically to it. When we talk about what kind of work you’re after, we can dive into the pricing. But if you’d like an estimate, please email me at alexsheedy@lxcopy.com to find out.

Oh gosh, I wish!! Unfortunately, I’m not that tech-savvyBut that doesn’t mean I can’t help! Building a website doesn’t have to be a complicated process, and I just happen to know a few things about how to find a web designer, or if you’re more interested in DIY I can point you in the direction to find great templates, and help with some basic fixes on how to make your website more functional for better user experience and interaction. If creating or refreshing your own website is a service you need, we can definitely talk more and find a solution that works for you.

It’s copy created to capture the interest of the audience, with the ultimate goal of generating a sale.

Those pop-up banners on websites asking for your information to subscribe, maybe they even offer something free as an incentive? That’s lead generation copy.

On a case-by-case basis. If it’s offline, sure, it’s highly likely depending on what it is, I’ll be able to help. But when asking to edit or proof online content, I need to check for SEO, which requires additional research and time. It’s not just a matter of checking the grammar or phrasing is correct. So if all you’re looking for is the simple edits or proofing for an online blog or article, or even for your website copy, then I’ll probably decline.

The brand voice is the unique personality and tone shown to the world. It’s the vibe your brand gives off by what it says and how it says it. Are you an edgy, devil-may-care retail brand, or a quirky and magical wedding planner? It’s a really important part of your business, and must stay consistent – otherwise people get confused and the trust in your wanes… which is why you need a copywriter!

How it works

Let’s break it down, step-by-step

No one likes uncertainty. So here’s a quick guide on how the hiring, creating, and delivery process works.
  1. CONNECT – After reaching out with your query, I’ll be in touch within 48 hours to set up a short phone or video to discuss the project. Following that, we’ll have one more in-depth 45-60 minute phone or video consultation so I can get the nitty-gritty details before getting started.
  2. CREATEIn this phase, we part briefly while I conduct market research, tap into your client base, and focus in on keyword analysis to develop the vision and lay the copy groundwork. Following that, I dive into copywriting and content creation.
  3. REVISE – First draft done, I’ll send it over to you for approval – don’t worry, we’ve got two rounds of revisions included, just in case. When we’re both happy, we move onto the next and final stage.
  4. DELIVER – Once the work is completed, and the copy implemented, our time together comes to a close. I’ll leave you with a packet of information specific to your project.

I’m sad to see you go, but glad to hear from you again in the future for more copywriting needs!
